In this book, researchers Marcos Avalos and Camilo Vidal rigorously evaluate the performance of the Federal Competition Commission (Cofeco) in one of its main responsibilities: the regulation of enterprise mergers. The study shows that, in the practice, the Cofeco has authorized those enterprise mergers that do not have a negative result when analyzing the concentration index, the relationship among its shareholders and the entrance barriers to the market. However, the study criticizes the fact that gains on efficiency have not played an important role on the authorization of mergers and that the authority lacks of a methodology to measure these.
